Dark Spots On The Scalp

Causes: Generally dark spots on the scalp or black spot on face may be caused due to irregular release of melanin, which is a skin pigment. Excessive production of melanin is called as hyper pigmentation and this may be the reason for experiencing brown patches on the face. It may be triggered due to spending too much time exposed to UV rays present in sunlight. This condition can be treated using simple home remedies and by taking the right amount of vitamins. A black spot on face may be a cause of worry especially for teenagers. But this is generally caused due to over exposure to sunlight or it may be caused due to hormonal changes related to pregnancy. Sometimes antibiotics may also cause black spots. You can adopt several methods to get rid of these colorations, try some of the cheapest and the most effective treatment methods to ensure your relief.

Simple measures you can take to avoid or lighten dark spots on face:

  1. Simple measures like wearing a hat every time you go outside will protect you from the sun’s rays. Don’t forget to apply a sunscreen lotion.
  2. Lemon juice is a natural bleaching agent and when mixed with honey in 2 parts to one, helps in lightening dark spots. Let the mixture stay on for 15 minutes before washing it off.
  3. Exfoliating removes the dead skin cells and this helps in fading dark spots. You can easily do this by purchasing an over-the-counter microdermabrasion, available in most of the stores.
  4. Shea butter which is obtained from the Shea tree is very effective for lightening the skin tone.
  5. Cucumber juice is another beneficial remedy for dark spots on the scalp. Cucumber juice mixed with some refreshing rose water is very helpful for obtaining a soft, glowing complexion.
  6. Saffron mixed with rose water also removes blemishes from the skin.
  7. Applying vitamin E is also very beneficial for getting rid of black spots. This vitamin is viscous and it may be mixed with some non-comedogenic oil like almond oil and massaged on the scalp or where ever the black spots appear on the face.
  8. You can also use a fade cream or a bleaching agent such as hydroquinone to lighten the dark spots on your face.

If nothing seems to work chemical peels may be tried. In this procedure the dermatologist uses a chemical solution which causes the upper layer of the skin to slough off and eventually peel away. The skin underneath gets exposed and you may experience redness and swelling. But this eventually gets better after sometime.

Another remedy is fractional laser skin resurfacing. This procedure removes the upper layer of the skin and this causes collagen to be produced which improves the layers underneath. Topical anesthesia is applied on the skin and due to this you won’t feel more than a prickling sensation. It is normal for the skin to become red and swollen after this procedure and ice packs may be applied to reduce the swelling as such.
